Hey Readers!

Well,..... We missed Saturday, which was the teen portion of the festival, and we went on Sunday, which was the children's portion of the festival. Although we were sad that we missed the authors/books we like, the festival was still so much fun! We met up with the Executive Director of the Texas Book Festival, Heidi Smith, and asked her a few questions:

Q: How long has the book festival been going on?
A: This is the 16th Annual

Q: How long have you been executive director?
A: This is my fourth year

Q: What made you want to take on this job?
A: I first volunteered for the Washington Book Festival and I loved it. When I moved back to
Texas, I decided to get interviewed for the job as director of the Texas Book Festival, and I got the job. I have loved doing this, and I love literacy, especially children's literacy.

Q: What are some interesting facts?
A: We have 3.5 staff members, 40,000 people came to the festival this weekend, and we have over 600 volunteers

We also met Mary Gordon Spence, someone who has attended the Festival for all 16 years. She says, "The Texas Book Festival is my favorite Holiday."

Over all, the book festival was a big hit. We promise next year, we will go on the right day! :)
