The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen- Review

Hello Everyone!!

As you may or may not know, Sarah Dessen (my favorite author) just came out with her new book, The Moon and More, on June 4th. I finished reading it rather quickly because I wanted to get this review up for y'all, so here it is!

Summary (NO SPOILERS):

Luke is the perfect boyfriend: handsome, kind, fun. He and Emaline have been together all through high school in Colby, the beach town where they both grew up. But now, in the summer before college, Emaline wonders if perfect is good enough.
Enter Theo, a super-ambitious outsider, a New Yorker assisting on a documentary film about a reclusive local artist. Theo’s sophisticated, exciting, and, best of all, he thinks Emaline is much too smart for Colby.
Emaline’s mostly-absentee father, too, thinks Emaline should have a bigger life, and he’s convinced that an Ivy League education is the only route to realizing her potential. Emaline is attracted to the bright future that Theo and her father promise. But she also clings to the deep roots of her loving mother, stepfather, and sisters. Can she ignore the pull of the happily familiar world of Colby?
Emaline wants the moon and more, but how can she balance where she comes from with where she’s going?
Sarah Dessen’s devoted fans will welcome this story of romance, yearning, and, finally, empowerment. It could only happen in the summer.
Emma's Review: I was extremely excited for this book to come out. My favorite author, summer-themed, romance, what's more to love? As soon as the book came out, I was ready to read. I am afraid to say I was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it was a great read, but I was not too happy about the ending. Based on the summary, I thought it was going to be a typical summer romance about a girl choosing between two boys. But what I read was a story about family and reconnecting with yourself. I was a little mislead by the summary, but it was a good book all in all. Out of five stars, I'll give this one 3. Not my favorite Sarah Dessen book, but definitely not the worst thing I've ever read. Hope y'all enjoyed my review! Stay tuned for Peyton's!

Peyton's Review:
I have only read a couple of Sarah Dessen's books, seeing as I tend to gravitate to more thrilling, action-packed stories. I have to agree with Emma though, this was not one of her best. I found most of the characters to be not very likeable and the plot a bit dull. It did have a few interesting parts, but overall I did not enjoy this book as much as I would have liked to. I give this book two out of five stars. Comment below and let us know what YOU think!
